Folk Music and the Nordic Newcomers: 1st Generation Swedish Immigrants in the Upper Midwest
Explore how Swedish musicians who immigrated to the Upper Midwest (late 1800s–early 1900s) shaped regional traditions with fiddles, button boxes, nyckelharpas, and bagpipes—leaving a legacy in both Minnesota and Sweden.

About the Artist
Renee Vaughan is passionate about traditional Swedish folk arts: music, painting and storytelling. With one foot firmly planted in tradition and the other stepping ahead with care and curiosity, her primary form of expression is the resonant voice of the nyckelharpa, the national folk instrument from Sweden.

No registration necessary, everyone is welcome!
